The Petrosian Memorial took place in Moscow 3rd to 11th November 2014.
Alexander Grischuk won with 5.5/7 quickly drawing his final game with white against his closest rival Vladimir Kramnik who seemed to be back to his usual self after a disappointing year following the Candidates. Games and results.
Grischuk wins against Leko in Petrosian Memorial Round 5 (5)
Alexander Grischuk beat Peter Leko with a nice finish. Leko had pretty much equalised in a Queen's Gambit Tartakower Defence but needed to sacrifice two pieces for a rook on move 23 for equality. After he decided to give up his pawn on g7 his position never recovered. This is Grischuk seventh win in eight games. He has black against Aronian in round 6.
Boris Gelfand got back to 50% beating Alexander Morozevich who seems on a downward spiral after losing in round 3 and allowing a winning combination (not seen) in round 4. Today Morozevich never recovered from allowing a Nxd5 sacrifice by Gelfand which left white completely in charge of the position.
Aronian and Kramnik drew a topical Queens Gambit with Bf4 and Inarkiev and Ding Liren drew a quiet Caro-Kann.
Round 5 standings 1 Grischuk 4.5pts 2 Kramnik 3pts 3-5 Ding Liren, Aronian, Gelfand 2.5pts 6 Leko 2pts 7-8 Inarkiev, Morozevich 1.5pts
Round 6 pairings Monday 10th Nove 12pm GMT: Kramnik-Morozevich, Ding Liren-Gelfand, Leko-Inarkiev and Aronian-Grischuk.
