1) Introduction

My thanks to Tarjei J. Svensen, Sergey Abramov, Suat Atalik, Hector Walsh, Luis Rodi, Rodolfo Arias Formoso, Casper Dahl Rasmussen, Carlos Martín Sánchez, Laszlo Nagy, Leonid Galperin, Mikhail Golubev, Vlad Barsi, Cecil Rosner, Roberto Alvarez, Yin Hao, ZF, Marek Bartel, George Mirijanian and everyone else who helped with the issue.

Liviu-Dieter Nisipeanu won the European Individual Championship with a fantastic 10/13 (well over 2800) score. He survived a dangerous assault from Alexander Beliavsky in the final round to take the title. Friday sees the start of the Dortmund tournament Vladimir Kramnik, Peter Leko, Veselin Topalov, Peter Svidler, Michael Adams, Etienne Bacrot, Loek van Wely, Peter Heine Nielsen, Emil Sutovsky and Arkadij Naiditsch compete. The FIDE Rating list sees Vesselin Topalov catch Viswanathan Anand in second place. The pair are tied for second behind Garry Kasparov who will be top for two more lists before inactivity will remove him provided he remains retired.

Hope you enjoy this issue.
