1) Introduction

My thanks to Adolivio Capece, Miklos Orso, Thomas Henrich, Carlos Martín Sánchez, Przemek Jahr, Frank Berry, Michael Richter, Gary Suffield, Manuel Rodríguez García, Luiz Roberto Da Costa Jr, Greg Shahade, Eugeny Atarov, Pia Cramling, George Mirijanian, Toni Ayza, Stefan Loeffler, Fabrice Wantiez and everyone else who helped with the issue.

Another interesting week of chess with the 58th Russian Championship qualifiers concluding. Former FIDE Champion Alexander Khalifman and Wijk aan Zee winner Evgeny Bareev shared first after final round wins. Elsewhere the Argentine and Dutch Championships continue. To be honest the conclusion to the Ashes Cricket contest occupied my mind during the final production of this edition of TWIC. It would be great to see such all out committed play in the forthcoming FIDE World Championship.

Hope you enjoy this issue.

Mark

"Operation Capablanca", a chess opera written by the Viennese artist Zenita Komad, had its first outing last thursday, September 1, at the Kunsthalle Wien (Vienna Contemporary Art Center). The opera which is set around a game won by Capablanca against Herman Steiner in 1933 has been performed on her installation consisting of a giant chess board and 32 sculpture pieces. Coinciding with Komad´s art project was a GM tournament (average rating 2443). 17 year old Arik Braun from Germany claimed first prize and his first GM result. News: Stefan Loeffler.

Soren Sogaard announces that his site Seagaard ChessReviews will no longer be updated.

His letter: Dear reader! This is the last "newsletter" you receive from Seagaard ChessReviews. I have run the site for 5½ years, but now I no longer have the time to keep running the site. I have looked for sponsors for some time now, but I didn't succeed. Without these sponsors it is not easy to run the site. It was a hard decision, but the site, products and reviews will still be there for you - I just stop reviewing the products that I receive. If I receive products in the future, I will still store them in the database. However, I will writ eto the publishers that the site is closing so don't count on a lot of new products ;-) Thanks to all the people who supported me during the years. I am happy that more than 320 people now subscribes to the newsletter and that we have + 70.000 hits every week. All the best Soren Sogaard - Seagaard ChessReviews
