1) Introduction

My thanks to Luke McShane, Miklos Orso, Jakub Fuksik, George Mastrokoukos, Robert Bellin, Laszlo Nagy, Eirik T. Gullaksen, Joaquim de Deus Fo., Robi Veltroni, Kristianus Liem, Christophe Philippe, Per Rasmussen and everyone else who helped with the issue.

A bit of a quiet week, but that's only in the run up to the start of the Aeroflot Open the strongest open in the world which has its opening ceremony tomorrow and then to the weekend with the start of the Morelia part of the Morelia/Linares tournament. The joint winners of Wijk aan Zee Levon Aronian, Veselin Topalov and Teimour Radjabov are also joined by Viswanathan Anand, Peter Svidler and Magnus Carlsen from the same event along with Peter Leko and Alexander Morozevich in the only major event on two continents. Great stuff.

Hope you enjoy this issue.

Mark

11) Passos Tournament

The Category III Passos tournament took place 21st-26th January 2007. Jose Fernando Cubas won the event with 7/9. The official site calls the final placed player Pereira, Frederico Gazel Colen which makes more sense than the form in the FIDE list. However I have gone with the list spelling for sake of consistancy. News: Joaquim de Deus Fo..
