1) Introduction

My thanks to Roland Wimmer, Olexandr Prohorov, Luiz Roberto Da Costa Jr, Arthur Brameld, Md. Haroon Or Rashid, Fred Hamperl, Adolivio Capece, Harald Grafenhofer, Lennarth Eriksson, Miklos Orso, Petar Stajic and everyone else who helped with this issue.

Another week of high quality chess. The Kings tournament sees Vassily Ivanchuk and Veselin Topalov share the lead half a point clear of Fabiano Caruana. These small events need to catch fire and this one hasn't quite managed that but there is plenty to play for in the final round so there is still time. The FIDE Women's World Championship is alternating matches with World Cup format events to decided the title. The first round of the World Cup for the title has seen the top 12 seeds go through with no problems. Early days. Russia has plenty of nice events these days and the Rector Cup MGSU rapid saw Dmtry Andreikin take the title. The Spanish Team Championship Honor Division also had some very strong players competing over 7 rounds. The Bundesliga saw the 3rd and 4th rounds. The Italian Championship saw Alberto David easily capture his first title since changing affiliation to Italy. I'm sure there is plenty of high quality chess on show.

The 6th Kings Tournament takes place 7th to 14th November 2012. Vassily Ivanchuk and Veselin Topalov share the lead with a round to go on 3/5 having both a single win against Nisipeanu. In all truth the event has not caught fire at all.

3) FIDE World Cup Women 2012

The Women's World Chess Championship is a 6 round event organised using the World Cup format of mini-matches. Until the final there will be two standard time control games and if necessary two rapid followed by two blitz and then finally a sudden death game. Still no major shocks. Top 6 seeds Hou Yifan, Humpy Koneru, Anna Muzychuk, Zhao Xue, Kateryna Lahno and Nadezhda Kosintseva all went through 2-0. 7th seed Viktorija Cmilyte and 8th seed Marie Sebag, held to draws in game one won on day 2 as the top 12 seeds went through. Lela Javakhishvili levelled the score against Anastasia Bodnaruk.

4) Rector Cup MGSU Our Heritage 2012

The Rector Cup MGSU "Our Heritage" tournament took place at the Moscow State University 9th-11th Nov 2012. This rapid (15mins + 10spm) got off to a shakey start when they only managed to hold one round on the first day due to technical problems. The event has now reached the last round. In the final round leader Vladimir Potkin easily held Ian Nepomniachtchi with black. Dmtry Andreikin beat Rychagov to win the event on tie-break after catching Potkin on 9 points. Potkin probably should have played on in his game if this was a danger.

The 72nd Italian Championship took place 30th October to 10th November 2012 in Torino. Alberto David won the event with 8.5/11 a point and a half clear of Guido Caprio and Daniyyl Dvirnyy.
