1) Introduction

My thanks to Roland Wimmer, Olexandr Prohorov, Luiz Roberto Da Costa Jr, Md. Haroon Or Rashid, Henri Koskinen, Jon Haskel and everyone else who helped with this issue.

Another busy week where it seemed there was an almost never-ending stream of new events. The Women's World Chess Championship where Antoaneta Stefanova (Bulgaria) meets Anna Ushenina (Ukraine). These two experienced players have survived where the top seeds and the entire Chinese contingent have been eliminated. The winner will play Hou Yifan in a World title match next year but will be women's champion at least until then.

The FIDE Grand Prix in Tashkent is in the early stages with Alexander Morozevich leading on 3/4.

The UNAM Chess Festival saw a huge amount of chess finishing with Magnus Carlsen beating Judit Polgar in the final of a quadrangular tournament. Both will immediately travel to London for the start of the classic on Saturday. I will be doing some hosting of ICC's coverage almost certainly starting with Sunday's round 2 games alongside David Smerdon.

There is much, much more including the British Rapidplay, Hungarian Championship, Bora Kostic Memorial, Kilkenny Masters, a number of team events the list goes on an on.

3) FIDE World Cup Women 2012

The Women's World Chess Championship takes place in Khanty-Mansiysk 11th November to 3rd December 2012. Semi-Final: Stefanova 1.5-0.5 Harika and Ushenina 1-1 Ju Wenjun. Stefanova reaches the final starting on Tuesday. Ushenina beat Ju in Tiebreaks winning game one and surviving a completely lost position to draw and go through in game two.

4) 2nd UNAM Chess Festival 2012

The 2nd UNAM Chess Festival took place in Mexico City 16th to 25th November 2012. There were a large number of tournaments and exhibition events. Magnus Carlsen beat Judit Polgar in the final of a quadrangular rapid and blindfold tournament in a blitz tie-break. Bartlomiej Macieja dominated the open tournament winning with 8.5/9. Olga Alexandrova won the women's rapid event (prelim and final games available but couldn't find the semi-final games). Carlsen won the exhibition event against the World. He won a second game against the 2000 strong audience (I haven't managed to find that yet).

The VIII Ugra Governor's Cup took place 15th to 23rd November 2012 alongside the Women's World Championship. Coverage and games was all in Russian but somehow I managed to convert all the games and results. I cannot think that even Russians think putting the games in Cyrillic is at all useful and if they insist in putting the results in Cyrillic the FIDEid would be awfully useful. Ildar Khairullin won the A-Group with 7/9.
