A sixteen year old Ukrainian, Yaroslav Zherebukh, has won one of the biggest Open tournaments of the year at Cappelle-La-Grande. The youngster finished on 7.5/9 after defeating Mikhail Gurevich, a former world number three, in the penultimate round. The winner's performance was all the more remarkable as he was crushed in round three by another young player in the third round.
Sometimes the Ruy Lopez looks like a forced win.

Black needs to play more vigorously to destroy White's centre. As played White has a free hand on the kingside.
