As Sergey Karjakin said, "I did my job" after beating Vassily Ivanchuk in an embarrassing game. Ivanchuk has been playing faster and faster and worse and worse in this event and today he played bad moves without a lot of thought. We have seen these mental collapses before from him but not recently and it is always sad to see. It allowed Karjakin to join Magnus Carlsen in the lead who was held by Liviu-Dieter Nisipeanu. Carlsen got a complicated position on the black side of a Breyer Defence but Nisipeanu found an exchange sacrifice which led to simplification and equality. Carlsen has white against Karjakin in the final round and as they share the lead on 6/9 this will decide the tournament. Hikaru Nakamura and Teimour Radjabov drew a lengthy game which wasn't terribly exciting.
