The 2nd FIDE Grand Prix organised by AGON took place in Tashkent 22nd November to 4th December 2012. Wins for Sergey Karjakin against Ruslan Ponomariov and Wang Hao against joint leader Shakhriyar Mamedyarov allowed them to join Alexander Morozevich (final round draw against Peter Svidler) on 6.5/11. There was an amazing battle for first in the final rounds. Fabiano Caruana was half a point back alongside Caruana and Kasimdzhanov who showed very good preparation. All the results and games below.

Karjakin leads alone in Tashkent after 9 Rounds (9)

Wang Hao found a nasty initiative to beat joint leader Fabiano Caruana in a Slav Exchange and lift himself into a share of 2nd place. This left Sergey Karjakin alone in the lead on 5.5/9 ahead of a group of 6 players on 5. All the other games were drawn: Dominguez-Mamedyarov was a lively English sideline with tactics right from the start that ended in perpetual check. Kasimdzhanov-Morozevich, Leko-Svidler, Ponomariov-Kamsky and Karjakin-Gelfand were also drawn without undue excitement.
